Migration to Kentico Xperience 13 Core for the State Agency
A state agency migrated from end-of-life Kentico 12 Portal Engine to Xperience 13 Core, cutting average response time by 93.7% with under 10 minutes of visible downtime.
Kentico.NET Core

The challenge
The Kentico 12 implementation had grown complex with custom widgets and large content blocks, causing slow performance during peak traffic. The platform reached end-of-life, creating security and compliance risk, while editors struggled with accessibility inconsistencies and relied on developers for routine layout changes.
Our solution
- Conducted a detailed assessment of page types, templates, widgets, media libraries and URL patterns.
- Implemented an automated migration layer connecting the Kentico 12 database to Xperience 13 Core, with logging for anomaly detection.
- Migrated rich-text embedded widgets by parsing content and replacing it with structured components.
- Redesigned around a component-based content model so editors assemble pages from reusable components.
- Preserved over 95% of URLs, with redirects for the remainder to protect SEO equity.
- Scheduled cutover during off-peak hours with staging validation and a rollback plan.
